Chasing Currents: Everything You Wanted To Know

Everything You Always Wanted To Know

Joshua Smith

Founder and Editor at Cruising Freedom

This is the definitive guide on Chasing Currents for 2023.

I’ve been watching them ever since they started publishing videos on YouTube.

(Yes, I really am *that* obsessed with Brynn and Jade 😃 they’re very relatable)

If you wanted to know:

➜ How Chasing Currents afforded their yacht

➜ How they make their money today

➜ What boat do they have and its upgrades

➜ Where they are planning to sail

➜ How you can start crossing oceans

Then you’ve definitely come to the right place.

Before we start, a quick introduction from me…

The Cruising Freedom Author

Ahoy, Matey! I’m Joshua from Australia.

I’ve built the perfect business to sail the world.

A business model which can allow me to:

➜ Own a catamaran debt-free

➜ Go for weeks without WIFI

➜ Create semi-passive income

➜ Inspire others to dream big

But more on that later… 🙂

Chasing Currents FAQs (April 2023)

Boat Name

S/V Talisman

Crew Members

Brynn (age 30) and Jade (age 32)

Both are from England (Birmingham) and they have been together since the age of 19.

The Boat

Chasing Currents have a 28′ Emsworth Salton Stag with a fixed keel. It’s only 28 feet long but with a 9-foot beam, which does mean the gallery is surprisingly large.

Upgrades

Their upgrades include:

➜ 50 meters of chain for their Rocna anchor

➜ Raymarine AIS and chartplotter

➜ Handheld VHF and recently added a fixed DSC VHF and accessories

➜ Victron battery monitor

➜ Solar panels

Location

According to Instagram, they were in Cartagena, Spain.

They have just sailed to Rome, Italy:

This means they are currently up to date on their videos.

Past Cruising

Chasing Currents have explored numerous countries in the Med.

Affording It

Jade had 30 jobs by the age of 30 and had saved extensively. She got sick of the instability of seasonal work. Brynn equally worked as hard and they saved up enough to purchase their boat.

Net Worth

Chasing Currents are worth $157,000 US dollars.

Making Loot

They make their income by:

➜ Selling their own Chasing Currents merchandise

➜ Using Amazon Associates links on their videos

➜ Running YouTube ads on their channel

This has created a part-time income of $1,900/month.

Collaborations

Have you seen them on other sailing YouTube channels? I haven’t, but there is a lot of synergy between them and Sailing Yacht Florence. I imagine they’ll do a collab in the near future!

Future Plans

Where to next? It’s likely that they’ll explore the Mediterranean.

Key Takeaways

What can we learn from them?

➜ Find the best yacht you can afford

➜ Be prepared to do some boat work yourself

➜ It’s OK to sail with a shorter boat

➜ Find someone who shares your passion

And of course…have a ton of fun!

Conclusion

I really enjoy this smaller channel and can’t wait to see what Brynn and Jade have in store for us next!
