Everything You Always Wanted To Know
Founder and Editor at Cruising Freedom
This is the definitive guide on Sailing Nandji for 2023.
Over the last 4 years, I have spent 56 hours watching and researching everything I could about Yoshi and Bonita, back before they were YouTube-famous!
I’m so obsessed with my fellow Australian adventurers!
If you wanted to discover:
➔ How Nandji’s crew afforded their boat
➔ How they make their money today
➔ What boat they have and its upgrades
➔ How you can start crossing oceans
Then you’ve definitely come to the right place.
Before we start, a quick introduction from me…
The Cruising Freedom Author
Ahoy, Matey! I’m Joshua from Australia.
I’ve built the perfect business to sail the world.
A business model which can allow me to:
➜ Own a catamaran debt-free
➜ Go for weeks without WIFI
➜ Create semi-passive income
➜ Inspire others to dream big
But more on that later… 🙂
Sailing Nandji FAQs (April 2023)
Jarrad Laver a.k.a. Yoshi (age 36)
Bonita Herewane (age 35)
Tallula Mae (age 3) who is their daughter
I predict that Jarrad and Bonita will have another child in 2024.
Bonita has had a remarkable weight loss since having Tallula, becoming somewhat skinny these days.
Bonita’s nationality appears to be either half-Mauri or half-Aboriginal.
They also have a retired Greyhound called Marley.
Nandji is a 1996 Roberts 50ft Sloop Cutter Yacht
Their new boat is Independence.
Yoshi and Bonita have upgraded their yacht with:
➔ 600 watts worth of solar panels
➔ New lithium batteries
➔ New diesel engine
➔ New head and shower
➔ Repainting their entire interior
Sailing Nandji are currently in Thailand. They plan to stay here for a while.
Yoshi and Bonita have sailed Nandji:
➔ Along Australia’s east coast
➔ Papau New Guinea
Before buying their yacht, Yoshi and Bonita lived in a bus and travelled around Australia.
With their savings, they were able to sell their bus and fund the purchase of their yacht which cost $57,000. They had to complete some refitments before setting sail up the East Coast of Australia.
YouTube cruising families are often wealthy, but this isn’t the case with these Australians…
As of 2023, Sailing Nandji have a net worth of $480,000 USD.
This is based on the value of their yacht and online business. They still have limited money in the bank account.
By publishing videos to YouTube, Sailing Nandji make $5,600 per month via:
➔ Donations via PayPal
➔ Their Patreon subscribers
➔ Sales of official Nandji merchandise
➔ YouTube advertising revenue
➔ Sponsorship deals such as Babbel
➔ Affiliate links to PredictWind and NordVPN
Nandji have not yet collaborated with any other YouTubers.
Nandji has had some exciting and scary moments while cruising around such as:
➔ Getting their yacht stuck up on the rocks
➔ Losing their entire steering system at sea
➔ Experiencing a potential pirate attack
➔ Buying diesel with alcohol with the police
➔ Being kicked out of Malaysia (as all cruisers were)
Sailing Nandji are heading south into New Zealand. Marley is being flown over while Bonita and Yoshi will be sailing.
We can learn from Sailing Nandji that:
➔ Cruising with a dog internationally is possible
➔ You can thrive even with a limited budget
➔ Always dive down on your mooring balls!
➔ Buy the sailboat that you can afford today
➔ Sailing unchartered waters takes good planning
Nandji aren’t just in this space for the near-naked clickbait thumbnails on YouTube.
They share the reality of sailing in unchartered waters with a dog and toddler onboard.
Yoshi and Bonita are considered true legends in the sailing community for their real and raw stories. Pair this with incredible story-telling and emotion, and you have a wonderful couple with huge ambitions!
And their journey will continue for years to come!
