Everything You Always Wanted To Know
Founder and Editor at Cruising Freedom
This is the definitive guide on Sailing Tranquilo for 2023.
Over the last 4 years, I have spent 31 hours watching and researching everything I could about Sailing Tranquilo to learn more about their story.
(Yes, I really am *that* obsessed with Sailing Tranquilo 😃 my fellow Australians who are sailing around the world!)
If you wanted to know:
➜ How Sailing Tranquilo afforded their boat
➜ How they make their money today
➜ What boat do they have and its upgrades
➜ If you can source uncensored content
➜ How you can start crossing oceans
Then you’ve definitely come to the right place.
Before we start, a quick introduction from me…
The Cruising Freedom Author
Ahoy, Matey! I’m Joshua from Australia.
I’ve built the perfect business to sail the world.
A business model which can allow me to:
➜ Own a catamaran debt-free
➜ Go for weeks without WIFI
➜ Create semi-passive income
➜ Inspire others to dream big
But more on that later… 🙂

Sailing Tranquilo owns a Hanse 455 which they live on and create their YouTube content.
They upgraded their yacht to a bluewater ocean-capable yacht which took some time but was definitely worth the effort!
They previously had a Beneteau 473
Upgrades to their yacht include:
➜ AIS to detect other ships
➜ Radar reflector
➜ 75hp engines (instead of 50hp)
➜ Rocna 33 anchor with 100m of chain, instead of 60m
➜ Boom brake (I haven’t seen this on too many other yachts)
They are currently in Bora Bora.
They plan to stay here for a while.
Sailing Tranquilo is no stranger to sailing. They have explored in:
➜ Australia in the early days including the Whitsundays
➜ Panama including the Panama Canal
➜ Galapagos Islands
➜ The Caribbean and Mediterranean
➜ Fatu Hiva in the Marquesas
They also did the World ARC in 2017.
They both worked hard for several years to afford their boat. Their yacht only cost around $240,000 so it’s not so far out of reach for most people.
As of 2023, Sailing Tranquilo have a net worth of $627,000 US dollars. This is based on the value of their boat and online business.
They don’t monetize their channel all that much, making just $2,500/month. They make this through:
➜ Running YouTube ads
➜ Patreon (but they only have 8 subscribers…)
They could do much better but they’re probably not doing YouTube for the income. It’s likely they have investment properties in Australia that fuel their lifestyle.
Some moments in their journey include:
➜ Having their engines die in Nevis
➜ Dragging anchor in Saba
➜ Losing their steering on passage
Fortunately, they haven’t created any unnecessary drama. All these incidents are just a normal part of the cruising lifestyle.
Where to next? They’re planning on sailing to Australia via the Coconut Milk Run. ETA…12 months!
What can we learn from this beautiful family?
➜ Buy a yacht to start sailing sooner
➜ Share the good times with the world
➜ Sail to the weather, not your calendar
➜ Be prepared to do some boat work yourself
And taking solo children is totally OK!
It’s been wonderful watching just about every YouTube episode so far, and I can’t wait to see what else is in store. Australia will welcome them home with open arms!
