SV Seeker: Divorce, Drama, Net Worth and Earnings (2023)

Everything You Always Wanted To Know

Joshua Smith

Founder and Editor at Cruising Freedom

This is the definitive guide on SV Seeker for 2023.

Over the last 2 years, I have spent so many late nights watching and researching everything I could about Doug’s boat-building project.

I’ve come away not only inspired but with more knowledge about boat building in general.

So if you wanted to know:

➜ How SV Seeker afforded their boat

➜ How they make their money today

➜ What boat do they have and its upgrades

➜ Was the explosion just a prank?

➜ How you can start crossing oceans

Then you’ve definitely come to the right place.

Before we start, a quick introduction from me…

The Cruising Freedom Author

Ahoy, Matey! I’m Joshua from Australia.

I’ve built the perfect business to sail the world.

A business model which can allow me to:

➜ Own a catamaran debt-free

➜ Go for weeks without WIFI

➜ Create semi-passive income

➜ Inspire others to dream big

But more on that later… 🙂

SV Seeker FAQs (April 2023)

Boat Name

S/V Seeker

Crew Members

Doug Johnson (age 57) who is based on Oklahoma. There have been dozens of others who have contributed to the boat’s build at some stage during the journey.

The Boat

SV Seeker is a Steal Origami Boat (previously from Hong Kong) that is 74-feet long and has taken 4 long years to build.

Doug has put a ton of work into it, and his website is extensive where he goes through the entire build process.

Location

The workshop location is 2128 E. Ute, Tulsa, OK 74110

I’m not sure where his boat is being moored currently, but it’s somewhere on the Arkansas River near Tulsa, OK.

Here is one of his most recent videos in Arkansaw:

Affording It

Doug has effectively put most of his life savings and 4 years of his life into this project.

Net Worth

SV Seeker has a net worth of $580,000 as of 2022.

Making Loot

He makes a little amount on YouTube through:

➜ Amazon referral links

➜ The ads on his channel

➜ Subscribers via Patreon

He hasn’t really had any brand sponsorships.

Collaborations

He’s been featured on a few other YouTube channels, but these are often smaller creators.

Sailing Uma has been huge fans of Doug’s channel.

Big Moments

Apart from the explosion which was quite clearly a fake stunt designed to get attention, they have only had their sailing rig fail at sea and a few other issues.

Future Plans

Doug aspires to cruise around the United States, and we’re unsure if he’ll take his ship on a global circumnavigation.

Key Takeaways

What can we learn from this ambitious old-timer?

➜ No matter your age, you still have the energy

➜ Be willing to embark where others just won’t

➜ The entire cruising community will help you

➜ Have some patience while you build it up

And of course, keep things moving along

Conclusion

Doug is genuine, rare and exceptionally skilled as a boat builder and sailor. Now that the boat is floating downstream, I can’t wait to see where this journey takes him!
