Jessica And Ryan Adventures: How They Can Afford It (2023)

Everything You Always Wanted To Know

Joshua Smith

Founder and Editor at Cruising Freedom

This is the definitive guide on Jessica And Ryan Adventures for 2023.

Over the last 2 years, I have watched a ton of videos created by Jessica And Ryan Adventures to learn more about their story.

(You could call me a little obsessed with these two beautiful people 😃)

If you wanted to know:

➜ How Jessica And Ryan Adventures afforded their boat

➜ How they make their money today

➜ What boat do they have and its upgrades

➜ If you can access uncensored content

➜ How you can start crossing oceans

Then you’ve definitely come to the right place.

Before we start, a quick introduction from me…

The Cruising Freedom Author

Ahoy, Matey! I’m Joshua from Australia.

I’ve built the perfect business to sail the world.

A business model which can allow me to:

➜ Own a catamaran debt-free

➜ Go for weeks without WIFI

➜ Create semi-passive income

➜ Inspire others to dream big

But more on that later… 🙂

Jessica And Ryan Adventures FAQs (April 2023)

Boat Name

S/V Honu

Crew Members

Ryan (age 36) who is 6 feet 2 inches

Jessica (age 34) who is 5 feet 3 inches

Kira (age 3, turning 4 in September)

I have not been able to find their last names.

Arya (age 6) is their dog which is a Samoyed.

The Boat

Jessica And Ryan Adventures own a Lagoon 410 which cost them $160,000.

Upgrades

Upgrades to their catamaran include:

➜ New watermaker

➜ New cushions

➜ New drawers and mirrors

They also had to repaint the bottom

Location

They are currently in The Bahamas:

Their videos are only a few days behind, unlike most other YouTubers who are often months behind.

Past Cruising

Jessica and Ryan have focused on sailing through the Bahamas and the United States. They have also done the USVI and Caribbean.

Affording It

Before having kids, Ryan worked in his corporate job while Jess was a nurse for several years. The boat was purchased in 2017 right when cruising channels were becoming very popular on YouTube but fortunately, they only paid $160,000 for their catamaran. They didn’t take out a loan and simply paid with their personal savings.

They previously talked about their cruising budget here:

Net Worth

Today in 2022, Jessica and Ryan Adventures are worth $550,000 based on their boat value, personal savings and business revenue.

Making Loot

They treat their channel seriously and make money through:

➜ Selling their own t-shirts via Teespring

➜ Offering their own Patreon subscription

➜ Using Amazon Associates links in their video description

➜ Allowing YouTube to run ads on their channel

It’s estimated that they make $4,300/month with this strategy. Unfortunately, their website is lacking an SSL certificate and is not able to be accessed. By fixing this, they could add an additional $1,000 to $2,000 to their online business revenue.

Collaborations

Have they been on other channels? Not really. Unless I’m mistaken, I haven’t seen them do any collabs but I’m excited to see one!

Big Moments

Probably the coolest moment in their journey is meeting a guy who is riding his jet ski around the world:

Future Plans

Where to next? Well, having children certainly delayed their plans for a global circumnavigation, but they’re looking to explore the South Pacific in the next few years.

Key Takeaways

What can we learn?

➜ Find a cheap Lagoon 🙂

➜ Be willing to refit it yourself

➜ Having a baby on board is easier than you might think

➜ Don’t be afraid to quit your job

Above all else, take things slowly!

Conclusion

I have really enjoyed their stories, knowledge and vlogs to date. They have been able to afford to go sailing despite being on a lean budget, and there is certainly more to come!

Create Your Own Cruising Freedom

Hey! 😃 it’s Joshua again…

I’ve been very inspired by Jessica And Ryan’s travels on YouTube!

Some say I’m obsessed, but sailing the world is my childhood dream.

They’re living the dream, but that dream isn’t actually that far away.

I mentioned earlier about discovering the #1 cruising business model.

With this exciting opportunity, I’ll be able to:

➜ Generate a sustainable full-time income through learning basic skills

➜ Fund the purchase of my first sailing catamaran without any loans

➜ Do it without selling to friends and family (I found a better solution!)

➜ Share my lifetime passion for sailing, cruising and global adventures

Cruising Off Duty: They Disappeared From YouTube? (2023)

Everything You Always Wanted To Know

Joshua Smith

Founder and Editor at Cruising Freedom

This is the definitive guide on Cruising Off Duty for 2023.

Over the last 2 years, I have spent so many hours watching and researching everything I could about Cruising Off Duty’s channel to learn more about their story.

(Yes, I really am *that* obsessed with Craig and Janice 😃)

If you wanted to know:

➜ How Cruising Off Duty afforded their boat

➜ How they make their money today

➜ What boat do they have and its upgrades

➜ Where they have gone from YouTube

➜ How you can start crossing oceans

Then you’ve definitely come to the right place.

Cruising Off Duty FAQs (January 2023)

Boat Name

S/V Off Duty whose homeport is Washington.

Their registration number is ON5609772

Crew Members

Craig (age 51)

Janice (age 46)

They met around 15 years ago.

Craig was a police officer for 25 years and witnessed some of the most distressing stuff.

The Boat

Cruising Off Duty sails a Beneteau Oceanis 351 that they have owned for 12 years. They eventually want to upgrade to a cruising catamaran, preferably a Leopard.

Upgrades

They have fitted their yacht with a watermaker and additional solar panels.

Location

Cruising Off Duty went missing off YouTube and social media for around 1 year.

Craig has recently came back with some helpful tutorials:

Past Cruising

They have sailed through:

➜ The United States and Canada

➜ South Africa and the Mediterranean

Affording It

Are they rich? Nope! They spent decades working hard in normal careers and saved up as much as they could.

They’ll be retiring soon and will start cruising full-time.

Net Worth

Cruising Off Duty has a net worth of $670,000.

Making Loot

Craig and Janice take their channel seriously, and so:

➜ They run ads on their YouTube channel

➜ They run their own Patreon account and also account PayPal donations

➜ They sell their own swag through their online store

➜ You’ll also find links to their camera equipment on their website which are affiliate links

They make around $4,100/month via their channel, and share a very helpful video about how you can do the same:

Collaborations

They have a smaller channel and haven’t been on any other channels. They do remind me of Distant Shores TV and hopefully, they’ll do a collab with Paul and Sheryl at some time.

Big Moments

They have had unique moments in their journey:

➜ They visited Snake Island and an abandoned building

➜ They did a Transatlantic crossing

➜ They also got stuck due to international border closures

Unlike other YouTubers, they don’t create silly click-bait drama to simply get views. Craig and Janice appeal to the older cruising couples.

Future Plans

Where to next? They might be boat-shopping and might return to YouTube in the near future.

Key Takeaways

What can we learn from this realistic couple?

➜ Be willing to work hard for the dream

➜ Buy a boat now to learn how to sail

➜ Avoid the glitz and glamour of YouTube

➜ Play the long game and make plans today

And most importantly, make your dream a reality.

Conclusion

I have really enjoyed their content on YouTube, particularly their boat tours and reviews.

It’s simple, realistic and super helpful. They have a quote on their website:

“Make every minute count, enjoy life to its fullest and join us as we create memories and share those with you.”

And I certainly agree! I do look forward to seeing them return to YouTube.

Lost LeBlanc: Christian’s New Girlfriend and Net Worth (2023)

Everything You Always Wanted To Know

Joshua Smith

Founder and Editor at Cruising Freedom

This is the definitive guide on Lost LeBlanc for 2023.

Over the last several years, I have spent countless hours watching and researching everything I could about Lost Leblanc as a fellow travel blogger.

(Yes, I really am *that* obsessed with Christian 😃)

If you wanted to know:

➜ How Christian LeBlanc affords to travel so much

➜ How he makes his money today and net worth

➜ What boat he was sailing in some episodes

➜ Who is his new girlfriend and will they marry

➜ Why he left Katy and if he cheated on her

➜ How you can travel and work remotely

Then you’ve definitely come to the right place.

Before we start, a quick introduction from me…

The Cruising Freedom Author

Ahoy, Matey! I’m Joshua from Australia.

I’ve built the perfect business to sail the world.

A business model which can allow me to:

➜ Own a catamaran debt-free

➜ Go for weeks without WIFI

➜ Create semi-passive income

➜ Inspire others to dream big

But more on that later… 🙂

Lost LeBlanc FAQs (April 2023)

Creators

Christian LeBlanc (age 29)

Ruby LeBlanc (age 27)

He left Katie around mid-2020, had a brief time being single, and then started dating Ruby.

She has her own YouTube channel called Rubys Travels:

Her channel is quite small and you’ll find the best travel content on Christian’s channel.

Cruising

Christian has been sailing on multiple occasions. He has sailed on multiple pirate ships, plus has lived on a catamaran with Sailing La Vagabonde. This was when he was dating Katy.

Location

Christian and Ruby have recently returned to live together in Bali. They were living in Mexico.

Christian is from Canada originally and is a true freedom-loving individual like me.

Past Travels

Christian has traveled around the world and focused mostly on air travel rather than wind travel.

Affording It

Did he come from rich parents that funded his travel? Not really. He went to college, studied accounting, worked for several years and got seriously tired of crunching numbers.

On the side, he’d take regular holidays and fell in love with photography, videos and creating a story. He quit his job soon after to become a backpacker, then eventually turned into a luxury travel blogger.

He’s been a travel blogger for almost 8 years now and kept funding his trips by creating content. By playing the long game and through consistent work, it has certainly paid off.

Net Worth

Today, Christian LeBlanc’s net worth is $1,900,000.

He explains that he became a millionaire in just 3 years here:

He has saved most of his income and is often given free trips for publicity reasons.

Making Loot

How does he make his money?

➜ He runs ads on his YouTube channel

➜ He sells courses on creating your own crafty content

➜ He also sells merchandise and travel guides

➜ He offers a Patreon account with travel advice

He makes approximately $23,000/month from his 2-million subscribers, with many discounted trips and luxury travel.

Lost Creator Academy Review

Would I recommend his course, Lost Creator Academy?

Yes! The course is very in-depth, covers his entire editing process and he shares some secrets about how to monetize your travel vlog.

Today, he has hired his own remote video editor so he can spend more time traveling. This means that he’s doing quite well for himself.

You can often get a significant discount on Christian’s course on Black Friday. He does have free training on his website to give you a taste of what’s inside the course.

Collaborations

Apart from Sailing La Vagabonde, I have not seen Christian featured on any other cruising channels. I do look forward to seeing him jump on board with Sailing Ruby Rose as that could be an excellent synergy.

Future Plans

Where to next? Well, Christian won’t stop traveling anytime soon. He’s built a successful online business, enjoys creating epic content and inspires many of us to make the most of every single day.

Key Takeaways

What can we learn from him?

➜ Create a story, not just a travel vlog

➜ Bring your audience along for the ride

➜ Be willing to take on new opportunities

➜ Find a partner to share the journey with

And above all else, keep moving forward!

Living Hakuna: How Does Andrea Win on YouTube? (2023)

Everything You Always Wanted To Know

Joshua Smith

Founder and Editor at Cruising Freedom

This is the definitive guide on Living Hakuna for 2023.

Over the last 2 years, I have spent many fine hours relaxing in and watching YouTube episodes of Living Hakuna.

(Yes, I really am *that* obsessed with Alejo and Andrea 😃)

If you wanted to know:

➜ How Living Hakuna afforded a $295,000 boat

➜ How they’re each able to work 100% remotely

➜ More details about their unique online business

➜ What boat do they have and its upgrades

➜ What is Andrea’s age and nationality

➜ How you can begin crossing oceans

Then you’ve definitely come to the right place.

Before we start, a quick introduction from me…

The Cruising Freedom Author

Ahoy, Matey! I’m Joshua from Australia.

I’ve built the perfect business to sail the world.

A business model which can allow me to:

➜ Own a catamaran debt-free

➜ Go for weeks without WIFI

➜ Create semi-passive income

➜ Inspire others to dream big

But more on that later… 🙂

Living Hakuna FAQs (April 2023)

Boat Name

S/V Hakuna

Crew Members

Alejandro Zuluaga (age 31)

Andrea Palacio (age 30)

They’re both avid kiteboarders and entrepreneurs, always seeking the next greatest opportunity. Below I’ll be sharing how they got started online.

Also, their two dogs are Ozzy and Echo who love their life on board.

The Boat

S/V Hakuna owns a 2008 Lagoon 420.

Upgrades

Upgrades to their catamaran include:

➜ 1700 watts of solar panels feeding into 800Ah batteries

➜ A 4400-watt generator

➜ An Aquatec Watermaker

➜ 3 airconditioning systems

Being digital nomads, it’s clear that they built this boat to be comfortable rather than performance-orientated. It’s their house as much as it is their office.

Location

Living Hakuna is currently in Fort Lauderdale:

Past Cruising

They have only been sailing for 2 years and have explored the United States, the Caribbean, Bahamas and are now exploring South America with their dogs.

Affording It

They knew early on that the daily 9-5 grind and corporate life just wasn’t going to give them the lifestyle they were chasing. So instead of holding on for the long-term, they shifted to eCommerce and were able to build a successful online business in a short period of time.

Neither of them had a background in this space but they went to a conference in Vegas called SellerCon (I also went in 2019) where they discovered just how thousands of people were finding success online. From there, they funded and launched their own business – Mokai Paws – and kept pushing forward.

Not long after, they were able to quit their jobs, live in a van…and eventually upgrade to the catamaran. While they needed a small loan, it was their online business that really helped them secure a reasonably good interest rate.

So no – they didn’t come from rich parents and nor did they have large stacks of savings. Instead, they were simply resourceful in the time and energy they had to give to something meaningful.

Their choice of business model ties in well to nomadic living on a sailboat. If I were you, it’s something I would highly consider.

Net Worth

Living Hakuna’s net worth is $470,000 as of May 2022.

Making Loot

They treat their YouTube channel as a business and make an income through:

➜ Running ads on their channel

➜ Using Amazon links on their website

➜ Offering their own Hakuna merchandise

➜ Selling eBooks about preparing to sail

This brings them around $4,500/month alone.

Keep in mind that they continue to run Mokai Paws on their boat which is their primary business by using Amazon’s warehouses to store their goods.

I estimate they’re making $10,000 even up to $15,000 per month with this eCommerce business alone. Again, it’s a great model for working remotely and I congratulate them on their success!

They share more details here:

Collaborations

So far, I’ve only seen them with Sailing Lady Africa.

Have you seen them on any other YouTube channel? While they have had some friends on board, I haven’t seen them connect with any other channels. They are a smaller channel after all, but I do look forward to seeing them connect with others in the near future.

Big Moments

In just over 2 years, they’ve had some interesting experiences:

➜ Sailing near a pirate zone in Venezuela

➜ Being boarded at sea (though it wasn’t that bad)

➜ Going through some tough passages and repairs

➜ Handling 55-knots of breeze (they did quite well!)

They definitely know when to have fun…and when to be serious and get some work done.

Future Plans

Where to next? It’s likely they’ll explore South America before heading towards the South Pacific.

Here in Australia, we’ll welcome them with open arms! 🙂

Key Takeaways

What can we learn from this beautiful couple that works from these beautiful anchorages? A lot actually:

➜ Be willing to take a risk, even just starting today

➜ Working remotely is more accessible than ever

➜ You can definitely be liveaboards with 2 big dogs

➜ Start your business that suits the cruising lifestyle

And most importantly, remember that the time is now. There may not be another chance to have such easy access to opportunities.

Alejandro and Andrea have opened your eyes to something so powerful that it’s changed their life, and it could change yours too.

Conclusion

I can’t wait to see what’s in store for this beautiful cruising couple. They walk the talk and simply are the epitome of the cruising lifestyle in your 30’s in 2022.

That is – working remotely and having a ton of fun along the way!

Living With The Tide: They’re Missing Off YouTube? (2023)

Everything You Always Wanted To Know

Joshua Smith

Founder and Editor at Cruising Freedom

This is the definitive guide on Living With The Tide for 2023.

Over the last 2 years, I have spent a lot of hours watching and researching everything I could about Living With The Tide because their ketch really fascinated me.

If you wanted to know:

➜ How Living With The Tide afforded their boat

➜ How they make their money today

➜ What boat do they have and its upgrades

➜ If they’re still sailing and returning to YouTube

➜ How you can start crossing oceans

Then you’ve definitely come to the right place.

Living With The Tide FAQs (April 2023)

Boat Name

S/V Morna

Crew Members

Matt (age 27) and Paige Grogan (age 22) from the United Kingdom.

The Boat

Living With The Tide has a 1920 Dickies of Tarbert Gaff Ketch that’s 61-feet long. Yes, their sailboat is more than 100 years old and yet, it’s still sailing strong! You can find more details about the ship on the Old Gaffers Association website.

They also have a tender that comes with a paddle. No modern outboard for these ambitious sailors!

That said, their ship does have a Volvo Penta diesel for navigating in and out of marinas, anchorages and boat yards.

Upgrades

They have upgraded their yacht extensively as you can tell by their YouTube and Instagram channels.

Location

What happened to Living With The Tide? Did they break up and stop YouTube entirely? Or give up on the project? Or just run out of cash?

This was their last video:

If you do have more information, I’d like to know. I messaged them on Instagram but they didn’t respond.

It appears they are just doing some extensive boat restorations and will return to making YouTube videos again in the near future. Yes, they ARE still together. 😃

It’s been a while…… actually its been longer than a while and for a long time we didn’t really have an update for you guys.

As you can imagine COVID put us in a position where we didn’t know what we were going to do. For over a year we couldn’t go to the marina to work on Morna and so she just sat there drying out. We worried about what state she would be in by the time we finally were able to get back to her. When the restrictions were finally eased we were able to move morna down to Fairlie Quay marina, ready to start the long restoration process.

Paige – early 2022

Living With The Tide are currently in Fairlie Quay Marina.

Past Cruising

It’s not all boat work with these two. They have explored:

➜ The Caribbean

➜ Madeira and The Canary Islands

➜ UK, Ireland and Europe

➜ The Mediterranean

They have even done a crossing of the Atlantic with their mighty ship

Affording It

They were able to pay about $50,000 for their classic yacht which came from personal savings.

Net Worth

Living With The Tide has a net worth of $410,000.

Making Loot

They don’t make all that much on YouTube, choosing to simply share their renovations and travel. They both receive a small pension from the UK government that keeps them going.

Collaborations

I haven’t seen them on any other channel. They’ve very unique and one of a kind, so it’s hard to compare them with anyone else either.

Big Moments

They have so far:

➜ Run aground a couple of times

➜ Struggled to find marinas that can handle a boat their size

➜ Dodged a few container ships

➜ Accidently anchored without realizing

Future Plans

I’m not sure what 2022 holds for these two. Much like you, I’d just like to see them return to YouTube!

Key Takeaways

We can learn so much from these two:

➜ Big, tall, old ships can definitely cross oceans

➜ Don’t be afraid to be super ambitious

➜ Find someone that’ll support your wanderlust

Conclusion

I must admit – I do miss Matt and Paige. It was only the other day that I realized that they haven’t been uploading for a while.

They are now active again on Instagram but not on YouTube. I’d love to see them return to creating their epic videos and soon after, continue their great journey around the world with their classic ship.

Australia will welcome them with open arms. 😊

Distant Shores TV: What Happened To Paul and Sheryl? (2023)

Everything You Always Wanted To Know

Joshua Smith

Founder and Editor at Cruising Freedom

This is the definitive guide on Distant Shores TV for 2023.

Over the last 10 years, I have spent 57 hours watching and researching everything I could about Distant Shores TV to learn more about their story.

They are, after all, the original cruising video creators looonggg before the YouTubers showed up. Many consider them to be the pioneers of sailing videos:

I’ve personally not only learned a ton from their videos but got hooked on the cruising lifestyle.

If you wanted to know:

➜ What sailing boats Paul and Sheryl have had

➜ How they made their money to keep sailing

➜ What they’re sailing today and its upgrades

➜ If they’re still filming their TV shows

➜ What kind of boat is Distant Shores #4

➜ How you can start crossing oceans

Then you’ve definitely come to the right place.

Before we start, a quick introduction from me…

The Cruising Freedom Author

Ahoy, Matey! I’m Joshua from Australia.

I’ve built the perfect business to sail the world.

A business model which can allow me to:

➜ Own a catamaran debt-free

➜ Go for weeks without WIFI

➜ Create semi-passive income

➜ Inspire others to dream big

But more on that later… 🙂

Distant Shores FAQs (April 2023)

Boat Name

Distant Shores 4 doesn’t have a name, and they sold their previous boat a little while ago.

This is their ‘goodbye’ video:

Crew Members

Paul Shard (age 56)

Sheryl Shard (age 56)

They have been together for 30+ years having grown up in school today. In their 20’s they began sailing and never looked back, and never had children along the way either.

The Boat

Distant Shores recently sold their yacht which was a Southerly 480, also known as Distant Shores 3.

They are currently sailing on friends’ boats and test-sailing certain designs with other cruising couples.

Distant Shores 4 is launching in 2023 and will be an Orion 49 yacht with 3 cabins and 2 heads. Much like their previous 3 boats, they have chosen a monohull instead of a catamaran and have opted for an aluminum hull.

Upgrades

Paul and Sheryl haven’t really shared much about the new boat build. Once I have some more information about their upgrades, I’ll definitely be sharing it here.

Location

While waiting for their current boat to be built, Paul and Sheryl are in the Caribbean helping fellow cruisers.

Past Cruising

I typically like to share where certainly YouTube cruising channels have explored so you can see if they have been to some of the destinations on your bucket list. However, Paul and Sheryl have practically been around the world multiple times and stayed at just about every well-known cruising spot.

Affording It

Paul and Sheryl started out with a simple boat after a few years of working full-time jobs. They kept things simple along the way and managed a tight budget.

Net Worth

Distant Shores TV has a net worth of $1,100,000 as of 2022.

Making Loot

How did they afford to sail when they started at a time without ways to work remotely? Well:

➜ They would find odd jobs in ports

➜ They learned how to fix sails for others

➜ They wrote books and articles for sailing magazines

Once their name and stories became popular, they then started documenting their journey and selling the licensing rights to their TV show to stations around the world. It was a hit in the 1990s as they did all the filming mostly by themselves.

Collaborations

Have they been on any other YouTube channels? Absolutely! I have seen them with:

SV Delos

They also had the Windtraveler family from S/V Asante on their boat.

Note: Windtraveler isn’t sailing anymore. Brittany and Scott divorced in 2019 due to the stress of building a business, losing their business (hurricane), and raising 3 little girls in the British Virgin Islands without any family support.

I was a long-term fan of their blog.

Big Moments

What a journey they have certainly have had!

In the last 40 years:

➜ They have been arrested on more than one occasion

➜ Being true sailors, they have run aground more than once

➜ They have gotten themselves beached many times

➜ They have also published the longest-running cruising vlog that I have ever seen

Future Plans

Will they be stopping anytime soon? Nope! The sea is their home and there is so much to learn.

Key Takeaways

What can we learn from these two wonderful humans?

➜ You can live for decades on the ocean

➜ Don’t be afraid to be humble out there

➜ If you can’t afford a catamaran, get a yacht

➜ Be willing to do your own boat work

And stop messing around, as we only live once!

Conclusion

Paul and Sheryl have inspired many of us (myself included, and for a very long time!) to explore the world through the winds in our sails.

While their popularity has waned over the years as other channels have taken over, they still remain true to their mission to help other yachtsmen to explore new passages, anchorages and regions of the world.

I certainly can’t wait to see what Distant Shores IV will become, packed with 32 years of experiences behind them.

Founder and Editor at Cruising Freedom

This is the definitive guide on The Daley Adventure for 2023.

Over the last 4.5 years, I had spent many hours watching and researching everything I could about The Daley Adventure to learn more about their story.

(Yes, I really got *that* obsessed with David and Hayley 😃 after all, I was actually in the market for the same catamaran they owned)

If you’re super curious to know:

➜ How The Daley Adventure afforded their boat

➜ How they make their money today

➜ What boat do they have and its upgrades

➜ Why have they been missing from YouTube for 12+ months

➜ How you can start crossing oceans just like they did

Then you’ve definitely come to the right place.

Before we start, a quick introduction from me…

The Cruising Freedom Author

Ahoy, Matey! I’m Joshua from Australia.

I’ve built the perfect business to sail the world.

A business model which can allow me to:

➜ Go for weeks without WIFI

➜ Create semi-passive income

➜ Inspire others to dream big

But more on that later… 🙂

The Daley Adventure FAQs (April 2023)

Boat Name

S/V Susan Ann II

Crew Members

David Dobson (age 43)

Hayley Dobson (age 42)

Missing from YT

Why has The Daley Adventure not been uploaded to YouTube for a while? It’s because they now have 3 children (Ayla and Cooper, plus a newborn) and Dave is often working away in Portugal while they live in Dubai.

This was their last video which was published around 2 years ago:

The Boat

Before selling the catamaran, The Daley Adventure owned a 2017 Lagoon 250S.

They shipped a ton of their gear from the UK to the Lagoon factory in France.

Upgrades

Dave got to work pretty quickly and modified their boat with:

➜ Their own microwave

➜ Underwater lights

➜ Washing machine

Past Cruising

Before becoming parents, they explored in the Atlantic, Caribbean and Mediterranean.

Affording It

Dave and Hayley worked hard but didn’t have enough cash. They had to take out a bank loan to purchase their boat. Financing options appear to be more readily available in some countries.

Net Worth

The Daley Adventure is worth $980,000.

Making Loot

They didn’t monetize their channel at all, despite putting so much effort into their video production.

Collaborations

I don’t recall seeing them on other cruising channels, but perhaps I’m mistaken? If I am – please reach out so I can update this article. Plus – who knows, we might see them on other channels in the near future.

While their boat has been sold, I’m sure they’re itching to go sailing again now that the kids are getting a little easier.

Key Takeaways

What can we learn from this stunningly beautiful British couple?

➜ Sail before you have kids

➜ Be willing to take risks

➜ Make the most of today

➜ Don’t have any regrets

And of course, find a partner who’ll 100% support your dreams.

Conclusion

I have thoroughly enjoyed watching them and their journey on the Lagoon. Perhaps they’ll become like The Sailing Family and pick up sailing again soon. I know that Hayley is tired of Dave constantly flying away.

➜ Suffering a cracked hull

➜ Joel’s friends’ boat demasted

➜ Almost abandoning hope more than once

It’s been quite the journey but they keep smiling!

Key Takeaways

There is a lot that we can learn:

➜ Learn through real sailing experiences

➜ Buy a cheap boat that can sail just fine

➜ Be willing to take some calculated risks

Conclusion

Sailing Joy FAQs (January 2023)

Boat Name

S/V Sailing Joy

Crew Members

Ed Freitas (age 37)

Patricia Freitas (age 33)

They are a couple-crew although they have guests joining often. I’ve noticed that 90% of people who go cruising are couples rather than big groups or solo sailors.

I noticed their channel has the same intro music as Sailing Ruby Rose.

The Boat

Sailing Joy has a 2020 Lagoon 46. Previously they had a Lagoon 42 and upgraded for the space and stability. While it’s only an additional 4-feet, it increased their living space by 30% with the covered flybridge deck.

Upgrades

What upgrades have they made to their catamaran?

➜ B&G Zeus 3 Navigation Pack (Chartplotter and AIS)

➜ Garmin In Reach and Iridium Go

➜ Multiple fridges and freezers

➜ Rocna 40kg anchor (they kept their original 25kg anchor which became a spare)

They effectively have a floating condo that isn’t much different from a house, and that’s what they were aiming for.

Location

Sailing Joy is currently in Italy.

Past Cruising

They have been sailing for a couple of years, and have explored the United States and the Mediterranean.

Affording It

Did they come from rich parents? Maybe, but Ed has built successful businesses and made some seriously smart investments to purchase their Lagoon 46.

Net Worth

Sailing Joy is worth $1,900,000 based on the value of their catamaran and personal savings.

Making Loot

They make a part-time income on YouTube through:

➜ Donations via Patreon and PayPal

➜ Running Amazon links in their description

➜ Brand sponsorships and referral links (Huusk Knives Japan is one example)

➜ They also allow ads on their YouTube channel

In total, they make around $4,600/month and this will probably increase through 2022.

Collaborations

They are only a small YouTube channel and at this time, they haven’t been featured on any other channels.

Big Moments

While they only recently started, some interesting things have occurred:

➜ Witnessing a fire in their marina

➜ Having their boat delivery postponed

➜ Seeing killer whales attack sail boats

Future Plans

Where to next? They’re going to explore Europe before heading for the BVI!

Key Takeaways

What can we learn from this beautiful couple?

➜ It’s OK to buy an expensive boat (screw the haters!)

➜ A flybridge cruiser is a lot of fun if you can afford it

➜ Don’t be afraid to upgrade your boat’s electronics

➜ Find a beautiful partner to join you on the journey

They are clearly on a mission and make no apologies. I can compare them with

Conclusion

I enjoy supporting smaller channels and Sailing Joy is no exception. They haven’t been around for all that long, and I can’t wait to see where their catamaran will take them in years to come!
