Captain Scarlegs FAQs (January 2023)

Boat Name

S/V Haphazard

Captain Scarlegs’ real name is Hendrick de Jong. He is 52 years old and lives in Fiji.

He blew up on YouTube after his first video went viral and garnered 1m+ views:

He’s only created 8 or so videos and has 10,000 subscribers. We all love his content as it’s real, raw and authentic sailing without bikinis or bragging.

His wife in Fiji is a food blogger.

The Boat

Captain Scarlegs has a 1994 Radford 14 racing yacht designed by Graham Radform and built by Nick Edmunds.

Upgrades

He is currently upgrading his yacht and its electronics, hence why he hasn’t been on Youtube for some time. He is also enjoying his time away from the camera

Location

He lives in Fiji and this is where the boat is based. Previously he lived in Australia and this is where he bought his boat.

Past Cruising

He has sailed competitively in numerous places and most of his sailing has been in the South Pacific.

Affording It

Captain Scarlegs is retired after years of working hard for his sailing dream.

Net Worth

Captain Scarlegs has a net worth of $320,000 Australian dollars.

Making Loot

He hasn’t tried to make money on YouTube, but does receive some support via Patreon and some revenue generated from YouTube ad

Collaborations

I haven’t seen him on any other YouTube channels. Additionally, he is very unique and I haven’t found other channels that are similar.

Big Moments

His biggest experience was sailing his dream yacht back home…all by himself! And of course, surviving a Tsunami.

He also dislocated his shoulder once after falling off a pontoon.

Future Plans

He plans to sail around the South Pacific.

Key Takeaways

What can we learn from this Australian sailing enthusiast?

➜ A racing boat can be used for cruising

➜ Be prepared to do your own boat research

➜ You can blow up on YouTube without click-bait

➜ Be willing to share your wins and failures

And of course, there is no time like the present!

Conclusion

What a journey he has had!

Just like you, I’m thrilled that he bought this boat and is looking after it, but more importantly, he focuses on sailing and not the bikini shots or sailing drama that other channels create.

Big Moments

The big challenges in their journey include:

➜ Struggling through some big storms

Sailing Coco: What Boat Are They Cruising With? (2023)

Everything You Always Wanted To Know

Joshua Smith

Founder and Editor at Cruising Freedom

This is the definitive guide on Sailing Coco for 2023.

Over the last several years, I have spent many hours watching and researching everything I could about Sailing Coco to learn more about their story.

(Yes, I really am *that* obsessed with Alfie and Ceylan 😃)

If you wanted to know:

➜ How Sailing Coco afforded their boat

➜ How they make their money today

➜ What boat do they have and its upgrades

➜ Who was the French boat and crew they rescued

➜ How you can start crossing oceans

Then you’ve definitely come to the right place.

Sailing Coco FAQs (January 2023)

Boat Name

S/V Coco

Crew Members

Alfie and Ceylan Kioufi who are both 34 years old.

They are both from the United Kingdom, and Ceylan’s name is pronounced as ‘Jaylan’, not ‘Seelan’.

The Boat

Sailing Coco has a 2020 Fountaine Pajot – Lucia 40 Catamaran in the popular owner’s cabin layout.

Previous to this, they owned a 33ft Colvic Countess

Upgrades

They have upgraded her past the base level with improved electronics, water maker and additional solar panels.

Location

They are currently in The Bahamas and plan to stay here for some time.

Past Cruising

They have sailed in the Mediterranean, United States and most recently, the British Virgin Islands. They have also been apart of the Atlantic Rally for Cruisers, otherwise known as ‘The Arc’.

Affording It

Alfie and Ceylan are some of the hardest workers I know.

They have worked since they were both teenagers and sought to find their freedom in their 30’s.

They worked full time jobs, renovated properties in their spare time (property flipping) and ran a photography studio business too. They talk about that journey here:

It was really through hard work and determination that they were able to purchase their own catamaran at such a young age. No cheats. No gimmicks. No rich parents either.

That hard work has led them to where they are today. Not much of that hustle around nowadays where young people typically want instant results.

They definitely play the long game and kept consistently working towards their end game. You can see their determination and calmness shine through in their sailing vlogs, and I admire them greatly!

Net Worth

Young YouTubers are typically doing well for themselves.

As of 2023, Sailing Coco has a net worth of $1,300,000.

This is based upon the value of their boat and their online business.

Making Loot

Sailing Coco makes $2,700/month on YouTube by:

➜ Running a Patreon account

➜ Allowing ads on their channel

➜ Recommendations to camera gear

➜ Selling their own Coco merchandise

This is just enough to look after the monthly boat expenses. They also work remotely.

Collaborations

Apart from hanging out with friends, they haven’t really hung out with any other YouTubers.

If you’re seeking some similar channels to watch, then I recommend checking out Sailing Uma and Sailing Yacht Florence. They’re also young couples who decided to sell up and go cruising.

Big Moments

In the last few years, they have experienced:

➜ Rescuing a demasted sailor at sea (I watched the whole thing…it was epic!)

➜ They got married in Cyprus and it was a beautiful experience

➜ Numerous challenges with bureaucracy and interrupts to their travel plans

They seem to take this all in their stride.

Future Plans

From the BVI’s, they are planning to go to the South Pacific. This may take them a couple of years to reach as they’re having a ton of fun. 🙂

Key Takeaways

We can learn a ton from this down-to-earth couple:

➜ Work your butt off in your 20’s

➜ Be willing to take calculated risks

➜ Find a wonderful partner who supports you

➜ You can definitely work remotely

Start planting your roots right now.

Conclusion

I have really enjoyed watching their channel and they deserve a ton more subscribers. They’re just genuine sailors who want to share their world with us.

Collaborations

Apart from fishing with his mates and Shauno from 4WD 24-7, I haven’t seen him on any other popular channels.

Big Moments

He’s had some legendary moments hauling huge fish on his channel, but I won’t spoil those. 🙂

He had suffered a boat fire once back in 2016 near Heron Island. It was really nasty but he got through it just fine.

Future Plans

I believe that Sammy is looking to head up to the Kimberly region of Western Australia in the near future.

Key Takeaways

What can we learn from this Australian icon?

➜ You don’t need an expensive boat

➜ Start working towards your freedom

Sailing Britican FAQs (January 2023)

Boat Name

S/V Britican

The name comes from British + American, given that the family is a split nationality.

Crew Members

Simon Brown (age 66)

Kim Brown (age 48)

Their daughter is Sienna Maddison Brown who is now 12 years old. Despite being the only child on board, they do try to find other kid-boats out there in anchorages.

The Boat

Sailing Britican has a 2003 Oyster 56. This is a legendary yacht designed for bluewater cruising.

Previously it was called S/V Pearl Fisher.

Upgrades

They have upgraded most of the electronics.

Location

They are currently in St Martin.

This is one of their most recent videos:

Past Cruising

In the past, they have been sailing around the Caribbean

Affording It

Simon and Kim are entrepreneurs at heart, having built online businesses and had careers in the technology world.

This helped them save up enough to purchase their yacht for cash after much searching.

Net Worth

Sailing Britican has a net worth of $570,000.

Making Loot

Sailing Britican might have a smaller subscriber count on YouTube, but they are one of the most informative channels around, with a very in-depth blog (https://sailingbritican.com) to help newcomers.

I highly recommend you check them out!

On YouTube alone, they treat their channel like a business rather than a hobby and make around $5,500/month through:

➜ Many great recommendations of sailing gear to Amazon

➜ Allowing ads to run on their YouTube videos

➜ Selling their own merchandise

➜ Running a Patreon account

They definitely deserve recognition for optimizing their channel properly, and many other channels could learn a thing or two!

Kimberly actually wrote a PDF book about this and created a video which is super helpful:

I can see that they are true digital nomads in that sense.

It’s also clear that they want to serve their audience with knowledge about sailing and working remotely, rather than the bikini lifestyle that you often see on other cruising vlogs.

Collaborations

Apart from friends and family who have been featured onboard, they haven’t been sailing with any other popular YouTubers at this time.

Big Moments

During their 7 years on YouTube:

➜ They survived Hurricane Irma

➜ Avoided numerous potential disasters

➜ Lost a significant family member onshore

They are definitely more conservative as a cruising family and haven’t experienced too many incidents.

Future Plans

They have just returned to the United States and may wait until Sienna is an adult before heading westwards towards the South Pacific, and then to Australia.

Key Takeaways

What can we learn?

➜ Sailing as a family is a beautiful experience

➜ Working online is now easier than ever before

➜ Be willing to deal with the challenges that come

➜ Your freedom might be closer than you think

And of course, find the right boat for your dreams!

Conclusion

I have learned a ton from watching Sailing Britican on YouTube. They’re knowledgeable and don’t use click-baitey content in the form of bikinis.

I’ve always come away feeling better and wiser through their content, and hope they’ll be publishing for years to come.

The Sailing Brothers FAQs (January 2023)

Boat Name

S/V Atlas

Crew Members

Luke Martin (age 41)

Adam Martin (age 38)

They don’t have girlfriends and haven’t really dated since living on board full-time.

The Boat

The Sailing Brothers own a 1979 Rival 34 sailing yacht:

Upgrades

They have upgraded their yacht with basic electronics as they’re on a tight budget. They don’t even have a fridge or freezer, and their engine is 42 years old and still going strong.

Location

The Sailing Brothers are currently in The Bahamas.

Prior to this, they were in Bermuda.

Past Cruising

They sailed around the United Kingdom and then headed for warmer waters.

Affording It

Like many YouTubers, The Sailing Brothers simply worked hard for their dream. They previously lived in a 27ft boat in a marina while working 50 hours/week in supermarkets.

Atlas cost them just $20,000 as it had been neglected.

Much of the restoration projects and boat work was done by themselves (more than 400 hours!), therefore keeping the costs down.

Net Worth

The Sailing Brothers have an estimated net worth of $175,000 based on their boat value + online income.

They probably care very little about their low net worth, as they’re sharing exactly the same views with million-dollar yachts…and with a lot less stress!

They’re also not trading in years of their life in the corporate slave-trade to buy a slightly nicer boat.

Making Loot

They make an estimated $2,400/month on YouTube from:

➜ Their loyal Patreon subscribers

➜ Allowing YouTube to put ads on their channel

This is only just enough to sustain themselves, but they do get odd jobs in ports. They could monetized their channel so much better.

Fortunately they’ve had incredible support along the way due to the generosity of humans.

Collaborations

They are a little more introverted than other cruising channels on Youtube, and haven’t done any collabs at this time.

Big Moments

Things haven’t been easy and they have experienced:

➜ Coming across a sailor in distress

➜ Experiencing multiple problems with their engine

➜ Almost getting a $10,000 fine in the BVI’s

Fortunately, they haven’t created any drama or click-baitey content.

Future Plans

Both Luke and Adam have no ambitions of stopping anytime soon. They’re genuine world cruisers and from Nova Scotia, are heading back to Martinique (in one hit) and through the Panama Canal.

I certainly hope to see them in the South Pacific in the next few years!

Key Takeaways

What can we learn from these friendly gentlemen?

➜ Make your dream happen today

➜ Learn to do your own boat work

➜ Work towards your own freedom

➜ You don’t need an expensive boat

And of course, open your mind to opportunities!

Conclusion

I’ve really liked watching these guys. They’re a smaller channel and don’t have the gloss of other channels, or the bikinis for that matter.

It’s as though they’ve created their channel for people who actually want to go sailing, rather than the dreamers.

Certainly, they’re more relatable than 95% of channels out there, and they command a huge amount of respect from me! I’ll be supporting them long into the future.

Create Your Own Cruising Freedom

Hey! 😃 it’s Joshua again…

I’ve been very inspired by The Sailing Brothers and their travels…

Some say I’m obsessed, but sailing the world is my childhood dream.

They’re living the dream, but that dream isn’t actually that far away.

I mentioned earlier about discovering the #1 cruising business model.

With this exciting opportunity, I’ll be able to:

➜ Generate a sustainable full-time income through learning basic skills

➜ Fund the purchase of my first sailing catamaran without any loans

➜ Do it without selling to friends and family (I found a better solution!)

➜ Share my lifetime passion for sailing, cruising and global adventures

I’ve built the perfect business to sail the world.

Sailing Tangaroa FAQs (January 2023)

Boat Name

S/V Tangaroa

Crew Members

James Gogan (age 33)

Hannah Taylor (age 33)

The Boat

Sailing Tangaroa has a 2012 37ft James Wharram Catamaran. This boat is popular in Australia for coastal cruising, but certainly not the best bluewater cruiser.

They have since sold this vessel:

Location

Since selling their boat, their whereabouts have been unknown but it appears that they might be on Australia’s East Coast.

Past Cruising

They have sailed from Adelaide and all the way up to the remote Kimberly region of Western Australia.

Affording It

They both worked hard in their 20’s and were wise with their savings. Their boat only cost about $75,000 Australian dollars.

Net Worth

Sailing Tangaroa has a net worth of $230,000.

Making Loot

On YouTube, they were making around $2,000/month by:

➜ Their Patreon subscribers

➜ Allowing ads on their channel

It was only just enough to keep their travels going.

Collaborations

I didn’t see them collab with anyone else, but if you want to watch a similar couple then check out Sailing Nandji.

Big Moments

They came across numerous crocodiles (one circled their boat all night!) and they had numerous boat breakages, but the most notable moment was James’ proposal to Hannah.

Future Plans

Why did they sell the boat? What are they doing now? Did they have kids and settle down? No one really knows.

Key Takeaways

What can we learn from this genuine Aussie couple?

➜ Be willing to share your storm

➜ Do it all before you have kids

➜ Start work on your freedom project

➜ Head for the Kimberley’s if you can

And of course, plan for the future!

Conclusion

I really miss these guys on YouTube and hopefully they’ll start cruising again soon. If you have any more information about their future plans, then please let me know!

Nautistyles: What Is Rico’s Net Worth and Own Boat? (2026)

Everything You Always Wanted To Know

Joshua Smith

Founder and Editor at Cruising Freedom

This is the definitive guide on Nautistyles for 2026.

Over the last 3 years, I have watched almost every video that NautiStyles has published.

(Yes, I really am *that* obsessed with Nico and Victoria’s YouTube channel 😃)

If you wanted to know:

➜ How Nautistyles afforded their boat

➜ How they make their money today

➜ What boat do they have and its upgrades

➜ What is their net worth in 2022

➜ How you can start crossing oceans

Then you’ve definitely come to the right place.

Before we start, a quick introduction from me…

Nautistyles FAQs (January 2026)

Boat Name

S/V Ocean Rox

Crew Members

Nico Chalaya (40 years old)

Victoria Chalaya (she is 37 years old) and shouldn’t be confused with the popular actress.

They are both Russian-American and they have been together for more than 10 years.

Their dog is called Marco.

The Boat

Unlike most nautical channels which have yachts or catamarans, Nautistyles has a 2004 Meridian 408 motor yacht powered by twin Cummins 330hp inboard motors.

The estimated valuation of this is $265,000 and was previously owned by a famous basketball player.

Their channel focuses almost entirely on motor yachts rather than sailing vessels, unlike many others which focus on sailing vessels. They appeal to a more exclusive demographic with higher net worth.

Upgrades

They haven’t done too many upgrades as the boat already came fully equipped with enough equipment for offshore cruising. They have their own custom table top and DJ setup, and may upgrade their fridge soon.

Location

They currently live in Miami, Florida and often travel to the Bahamas. Previously they were in Los Angeles.

This is one of their most recent videos:

Past Cruising

They are permanent liveaboards but don’t cruise too far from the United States. They are looking to head down to the Caribbean.

Affording It

Rico was known as DJ RICO ROX – HOUSE MUSIC and made excellent money and has since semi-retired. He was able to save as much as he needed to buy his boat.

For him today, DJing is his hobby. It reminds me of the quote ‘do what you love, and you’ll never work a day in your life’ and they’ve taken this to a whole new level.

Meanwhile, Victoria worked for 5 years as a creator for LA Fashion Week. This explains why she dresses so well!

Net Worth

YouTube influencers in the marine industry are typically wealthy.

As of 2026, Nautistyles has a net worth of $3,700,000.

They are one of the richest cruising YouTubers but still remain humble, friendly and down to earth.

Despite looking a bit upmarket, they aren’t afraid to get their own hands dirty as they do their own boat maintenance and servicing. This means their content appeals to a wider audience.

Making Loot

Nautistyles has created plenty of YouTube content and makes $15,000/month directly from their channel through:

➜ YouTube ads that play during their videos

➜ Amazon links to their favorite gear

➜ Offering a Patreon subscription

In addition, they offer yacht charters on their very own boat which brings them an additional $15,000/month.

They ultimately have the ‘dream job’ are able to review motor yachts for a living, mostly for fun!

You can also purchase their exclusive Nauti merchandise. They have the biggest collection of unique items that I’ve seen of any other YouTubers, so it’s clear that they’re willing to put in the work and go well beyond what others are doing.

Collaborations

They have collaborated with many motor yacht owners and some other popular channels.

Another similar channel is Sailing Ruby Rose which reviewed a ton of sailing vessels in 2019/2020 and used a unique scoring-based system.

Big Moments

They haven’t created any controversy or drama, unlike other channels. I really respect this couple for keeping things real!

Future Plans

It’s unlikely that they’ll do a circumnavigation but they are planning to head towards the Caribbean.

Key Takeaways

What can we learn from this beautiful couple?

➜ Turn your passion into your own gig

➜ Be willing to make real-world connections

➜ Always remain authentic and humble

➜ Start working hard towards your freedom

And of course, just be yourself.

Conclusion

NautiStyles are one of my favorite YouTubers. They’re wise, humble and willing to be honest with their viewers.

While many of us will never afford the luxurious yachts they review, we can still enjoy these modern pieces of art and engineering.

I have a ton of respect for NautiStyles. Their boat tours are memorable and they command a lot of love from their views too.

I and many others do look forward to seeing them explore beyond the United States.
